Unlock the Power of OpenRouter in Coplay v8.0.0

Hello Coplay community! Our latest release is here, and it’s a big one. In Coplay v8.0.0 we’ve completely revamped how you choose models, added support for your own OpenRouter API key, introduced a new Claude model and made the plug‑in much more stable. The best part? You can now use Coplay with OpenRouter for free – it’s never been easier to build your next game.

Use Coplay for free with your own OpenRouter key

Earlier this month we wrote about how fierce competition in the AI landscape pushed OpenRouter to near‑zero margins. This drop in fees makes it possible to run many models at little or no cost, and Coplay takes full advantage of it. With v8.0.0 you can enter your own OpenRouter API key in the Settings tab and Coplay will run against your account. You’ll still get the full Coplay experience – smart code completions, plan‑and‑execute workflows and Unity editor integration – but if OpenRouter offers models for free, you pay nothing.

The option to plug in your own key sits alongside our existing Anthropic integration. It’s entirely optional: if you prefer to use our default billing, nothing changes. But for those who want to experiment with the growing ecosystem of OpenRouter models (and maybe save some money), we’ve got you covered.

A smarter model selector

We listened to your feedback about model selection. In previous versions we surfaced a handful of “popular” OpenRouter models, and it wasn’t always clear which provider they came from. With v8.0.0 the Model dropdown now groups models by their provider so you can quickly navigate between OpenAI, Anthropic and OpenRouter offerings. Instead of a curated list, we expose every OpenRouter model. Want to try the latest experimental transformer? Just start typing to search and pick whatever catches your eye – there are dozens of options waiting for you.

New model: Claude 4.5 Haiku

We’ve also added Claude 4.5 Haiku to the roster. It offers a great balance of power, price and speed, making it ideal for everyday coding tasks. If you loved Claude 4.5 Sonnet but wished it were a bit lighter on resources, give Haiku a spin and let us know what you think. (To keep things tidy, we’ve removed the Grok models from the menu – usage was low and the performance didn’t justify the clutter.)

Improved plug‑in stability

Beyond the headline features, v8.0.0 includes a long list of bug fixes and improvements. We improved error handling when Coplay reads your Unity scene, tightened up thread safety and significantly reduced the likelihood of crashes when using the plug‑in. Your copilot should feel smoother and more reliable, even during long coding sessions or complex refactorings.

Upgrade today

We’re incredibly excited about this release because it opens up Coplay to more developers than ever before. Whether you stick with our built‑in models or bring your own OpenRouter key, you now have access to a massive catalog of AI models – and in many cases it won’t cost you a cent. Update to v8.0.0 through your preferred distribution and let us know what you’re building next.

Thank you for being part of the Coplay community. Come play! 🎮
